Fred Update 8/19/99!

Has it been almost 5 months since the last Fred update? Unfortunately there hasn't been too much to upadte. We're getting closer to taking Fred to the Vet for all the stuff he needs. There has been two main changes in his life in past couple of months.

First, Denise bought new house so Fred has had to leave the only neighborhood he has ever known. Before we made the move we had to put up 6" chain link fencing. It was acutally easier than we thought. It took a weekend, and the posts were the hardest part but after that it was easy. So we moved Fred, Taz and C.C. to their new "Doggie-traz" and I am proud to say that there has been no escapes nor (as far as we can tell) any escape attempts. They all adjusted to their new home extremely well. This leads us to the second change.

They are all now outside-only doggies. Three dogs in a house with new furnature and carpet is just three to many, especially with Fred peeing on everything. So Denise decided (with some remorse) to make them outside dogs. We have a really cool doghouse for them to go in to as well as giant tarp to protect them from the rain and more importantly the sun. They all have adjusted very well. I'm sure the stedy supply of Snausages helped as well. The only problem with Fred is that he's terrified of thunder and lightening, which is so bizzare. You would think that the two dogs (Taz and CC) who grew up inside would be afraid and the dog (Fred) who grew up outside in the elements would take it in stride. He's getting better, but we still feel bad when we hear a thunder storm a-commin'.

One anecdote about Fred: I have been buying the doggies some Snausages (pig in a blanket variety) to make them feel loved during the move. Fred really really loves the things. So one day I gave them all a Snausage and then for an added treat I was handing out regular dog biscuits. Taz ate her's (gulp), CC ate her's (gulp) then I gave one to Fred. He took it into his mouth and then spit it back out (p-tooie!). It arced about three feet before it hit the ground and Taz snatched it up (GULP- treats from heaven). We about died! It was the damnedest thing I've ever seen. I guess regular treats just won't cut it any more.

Welp that's about all the Fred news we have at the moment. Hopefully we'll have some Vet stories to come soon.
