If you're ever in Gainesville and are looking for a place to eat, you may want to try out some of these local favorites. These are the restaurants you won't find anywhere but here in Gator Country! At least I'm almost positive they're locally owned and operated.

Name: Orange Garden
Address(s): 421 NW 13th Street G-ville (Near Mother Earth Market!)
Fare: Chinese
Bottom line: A good-sized vegetarian section on the menu, which is mostly vegan.
Name: Miya Sushi
Address(s): 3222 SW 35th Blvd (in Butler Plaza)
Fare: Take a guess....Sushi!!
Bottom line: I never thought that you would get me into a Sushi place. I went because Denise wanted some veggie sushi and I actually liked it! Color me surprised. There are many items on the menu other than sushi so there is sometehing for everyone. I think we'll be going back.
Name: Bahn Thai
Address(s): 1902 SW 13th St
Fare: Thai. What else? Decent prices and huge portions. I'm not an expert on Thai food, but I know what I like, and I like this.
Bottom line: The only drawback is the fact that they don't have Coke on tap. You get a can when ou order a coke and it's not inexpensive. Otherwise it's an excellent place to eat.
Name: Maui Teriyaki
Address(s): 136 NW 13th St and 600 NW 75th St
Fare: Pseudo-Oriental. Mostly veggies and rice (and meat). What makes this really good is the sauces. Teriyaki, Hot Chili and new Spicy Teriyaki. They have some of the best hot chili sauce I've tasted, you can't go wrong here.
Bottom line: It ain't fancy but it's inexpensive and tasty. Both you and your special vegan can get extra full here.
Name: China Express
Address: 112 NW 13th St
Fare: Really good Chinese food. Several options for vegans. They also have a $2.99 lunch special that will have you rolling out the door
Bottom Line: Denise has never had a problem getting something really good here. It's one of the best Chinese restaurants, it's inexpensive and you won't leave hungry.
Name: Farah's On The Avenue
Address: 1120 W University Ave
Fare: As best as I can tell it's got a Mediterranean flavor to it. Really good food, it's kind of mid-range price-wise. Good happy hour specials as well. Oh yea it's a bar as well as a resturant.
Bottom Line: Excellent food. Several choices for vegans that's more than a salad or chips and salsa. If you bypass this you're really missing something good
