First off, let me say that I like beef. Grill it, grind it, slice it I love it! Just don't corn it, won't touch corned beef.

But when I heard that the Beef industry is setting up a 1-800 number to report negative/innacurate reporting about the the Beef industry even I had to take a step back and go "Woah".

I can understand where they were coming from with the Oprah deal, I really can't support frivolous lawsuits, but I can understand their point. Now, they are looking more and more paranoid. From what I've heard if they catch wind of someone speaking out against their business they will send 'round someone to "re-edcuate" the offender. Now to me smacks of Germany circa 1941. Just what are they afraid of? They enjoy one of the biggest markets in the world! I think it would take much more than a few reports on just what goes on behind the closed doors of the slaughterhouses to ruin their livelyhood. Britian had diseased cows and are they a Vegetarian nation now? Hardly! America is not going to give up their beef as easily as they think. The only way they will cut into their profits is if they freak out, feel they're going under and raise prices. Once the price of burgers skyrocket at McDonald's then they're in trouble.

Just think of the millions of pounds of meat that is consumed daily, even in your town alone. Then multiply that by all the towns and cities in this country. Do they actually think that the beef industry is in jeporady? They want to correct mis-information but just who decides what is correct and what is incorrect? Will they approve of videos showing how their product goes from the field to the heat lamp at Mondo Burger? Ha! I say. They are in the business of killing and that's not a pretty sight no matter what or who you're killing, but it's a fact of the culture we're living in. Some people are going to be digusted, some will not care and some will never know what's going on.

If the beef industry want's the clean up thier image they are going to haveto find a different way to do it. Nazi-esque sounding "re-edcuators" is not going to do the trick and if they go forwaard with this it's their own image on the stun line.
